Paines Plough's Portable Roundabout Theatre Using Avolites Console for 627 LEDs in Roof Panels

Lighting programmer Peter Small specified the Sapphire Touch to program, control, and pixel map the 627 LEDs in the complex panels built into the touring venue's roof.EDINBURGH, U.K. — Theatre company Paines Plough's portable Roundabout Theatre has been popping up for performances around the U.K., including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this past summer. Lighting programmer Peter Small opted for Avolites’ Sapphire Touch console to generate pixel mapped effects using 627 LEDs in panels built into the touring venue’s roof.

16 Killed, 11 Injured at K-Pop Concert; Festival Safety Official Takes Own Life

SEONGNAM, South Korea — As a crowd of about 700 gathered Oct. 17 near an outdoor stage featuring different K-pop bands, some spectators hopped over a short wall to stand on a ventilation grate. The grate and 27 spectators fell more than 60 feet to an underground parking area. Fourteen died on site; two others succumbed from injuries later. The remaining 11 were severely injured.

Pacific Sound & Light provided the gear. The band is pictured here performing at Cheltenham Town Hall in late September.

Behind the Scenes UK Launched at PLASA 2014

Amber Etra, winner of the Third Prize, a £500 hotel voucher, with John Simpson, Chair of the Behind the Scenes UK Board of TrusteesLONDON — The industry stepped up at PLASA 2014 to care for its own by supporting Behind the Scenes UK, the new charity that will provide financial assistance to entertainment technology professionals in need due to serious illness or injury. Through its raffle and other charitable donations, the charity received close to £40,000. Pictured here is White Light's John Simpson, who also serves as chair of the Behind the Scenes UK Board of Trustees, with Amber Etra, winner of the Third Prize, a £500 hotel voucher. The Second Prize  (£1,000 Amazon gift card) went to Phil Hurley of Stage Sound Services Ltd in Cardiff. The First Prize was won by an American - Jerome Dunn of StageLight in Texas.

The fixtures, which make use of an 850W RGBY LED light source, were used an event for a legal consortium at Westminster Abbey and Horse Guards Parade Ground, pictured here. White Light Provides ETC LED Fixtures for Royal Court Theatre

LDs Peter Mumford and James Farncombe were the first to make use of the new energy-efficient fixtures. “Now is the right time to invest in LED,” noted Jack Williams, RCT’s head of lighting.
