LONDON – LD Andrew Voller used ETC Source Four LED Lustr+ luminaires to light 'Lift', a play running at the Soho Theatre, which explores the thoughts of eight strangers who happen to end up on the same elevator. Voller was first introduced to the Source Four LED spotlight by the Layers of Light presentation at ETC’s PLASA 2012 tradeshow booth in September.

TOKYO - High End Systems' new Hog 4 console debuted in February with Japan’s Kome Kome Club's arena concert tour. Touring LD Makoto Shimizu from Lighting Big1 saw the console at LDI 2012 and was eager to specify it for the band’s 2013 tour.

HONG KONG - Hong Kong‘s leading TV station, Television Broadcast Limited (TVB), has recently made a major investment in GLP’s impression Spot One for its studios. Under a new management initiative to reduce the carbon footprint of the company, TVB’s engineering department needed an LED solution to replace their existing discharge lamp automated lighting system.

MALTA – LD Anton Borg Olivier specified Clay Paky Sharpys, Alpha Beam 300s, Alpha Wash 1200s and Alpha Spot HPE 1200s for The Bay Music Awards in Malta. Olivier – who has worked on the Maltese concerts of artists such as Iron Maiden and Status Quo – chose the fixtures for their “rich colors and intense beams.”

JOHANNESBURG - South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has made its first ever moving light purchase, investing in Robe Robin 300 and 600 LEDWashes plus 300E and 600E Spots. They already had a good idea of the lighting they were looking for, having seen Robe at shows and events around the country.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Mandylights LDs Richard Neville and Alex Grierson spent a month in Dubai as lighting designers for Dubai’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. The 25-minute show took place around the center of Dubai in front of the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building. Using some 350 intelligent fixtures, the pair illuminated the Burj, lake and surrounding precinct which played host to 15 individual performer stages and a massive 210-meter (689 ft) long seamless projection screen.

The visuals gear included a Pixled FX-11 LED screen, Robe ColorSpot 2500E ATs, GLP Impression 120 RZ Zoom LEDs, Clay Paky Sharpys, i-Pix BB4 LED wash lights, JTE PixelLine LED battens and strobes, all controlled via a Catalyst media server and grandMA2 lite console.

JOHANNESBURG - Nigeria’s TV game show “The Money Drop” is recorded in Kew Studios in Johannesburg with lighting supplied by South African rental company, Blond Productions. Robe and Anolis products are featured in the rig. In terms of cues and operation, the requirement was for lighting to be slick, smooth and streamlined, as the show’s different sections segued together and the contestants bet their money on answering eight questions correctly.
